According to a report from Entertainment Tonight, Constance Wu is denying a recent report which accused her of getting the top billing on Hustlers, the film starring Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B, and many other stars.
A report from Page Six from Wednesday claimed the 37-year-old got in touch with several publications and demanded they list her as the headliner. Allegedly, the star asked to be named as the movie’s biggest star. Moreover, the report accused Wu of being a “difficult diva,” on account of her demands.
Furthermore, she was accused of behaving “badly” toward people on set. Entertainment Tonight learned that Wu claimed in her defense that neither she nor her contacts spoke with any media outlets. A representative also stated Wu didn’t make any demands.
In a statement to the outlet, Wu’s rep claimed Constance’s character was the key protagonist, however, she never asked to be listed as the main star of the film. “This recently reported initiative is patently untrue and a clear manipulation of the facts,” her rep said in a statement.
The star said she stands behind her female co-stars 100%. According to ET, this isn’t actually the first time that Wu has been the target of such media reports. Earlier this year, in May, critics labeled her as ungrateful following the renewal of her series, Fresh Of The Boat.
Following the revelation of the show’s renewal, she explained herself as merely making a mistake. Constance said her replies on Twitter were not actually about Fresh Of The Boat, but about something else. Wu said, “people can hold conflicting feelings in their heart.”
As fans of the actress know, Constance had already accrued success in the industry with her series, Fresh Off The Boat. However, it wasn’t until the release of Crazy Rich Asians last summer when she really became a star.
The movie was described as revitalizing the romantic-comedy genre after a series of box office upsets and was also praised for bringing much-needed diversity to Hollywood.
